• Vicodin – An addictive pain killer brought to prominence by the TV series 'House', vicodin is one prescription drug that is widely known to be abused by outpatients. Vicodin is a combination of paracetamol and hydrocodone, the latter of which is known for its potential for abuse.
  
  
• Methamphetamine – This is one of the most dangerous of modern recreational drugs and a direct competitor to cocaine in the United States. It can be manufactured anywhere using common chemical ingredients, and is therefore cheaper and easier to obtain than naturally-derived abusive drugs such as heroin and cocaine. Because of this, 'meth' abuse is more often found among younger and less affluent people, particularly teens. It is particularly deadly, however, due to its degenerative effect on the brain.
  
  
• Hydrocodone – An ingredient in many prescription medications, hydrocodone is an opioid that is incredibly addictive. While pharmaceutical companies use additives in medications that use the opioid to prevent abuse, determined addicts can get around them by employing various subversive techniques.
